Oh boy I was excited about going fishing. My father in law and I went to his fall fishing spot around the route 14 bridge at Berlin Lake. The water at Berlin Lake goes down about 10-20 feet from the summer to the fall/winter and by the spring they will do something to fill the late back up. Could someone please tell me how they get all that water back into the lake because my father in law and I were arguing and I just gotta know. Anyways we are now able to walk were the water once was in the summer to search for good fishing that we usually would not be able to get to in the summertime. Some of these areas are sand and some gravel, rocks, and even mud.

I have a pair of waders that I use when I'm looking for new fishing territory because I never know when I will need to get in the water. My father in law has some tall boots and he was familiar with the area we are headed towards. We ended up crossing gravel, sand, rocks, and now to the mud. Now there was a platoon boat that was half in the mud and half out. The mud that we had to walk across must of stretch out between 8-12ft. We didn't have to walk that far across the mud and just by the look of it, it was not that bad.

My father in law has done this before several times and he walked into the mud and reaches for the platoon boat for support to get him the rest of the way across. After seeing him walk across I figured it had to be a better way to get across without getting that muddy. When he would take a step into the mud he would sink until the mud was nearly at his knee. I figure if I go down about 40 yards you won't sink so far into the mud and I will be able to make it across easier. Boy was I wrong. When I attempted to cross I still ended up sinking into the mud until the middle of my shin. The thing that makes it so bad is that when you try to take another step your shoe or my waders were stuck in the mud. So I had to put all my fishing equipment down and use my hands to pull up my wader out and keep my foot inside to take another step and then I realized that I was not even half way across and I will have to go back. What should I do, turn around or step backwards steps to get out of the mud. My father in law was laughing at me while I was in my delima. Anyways I decided to turn around and that was a big mistake because I put myself in a position where I had no choice but to go don't in the mud. It was pretty scary because you started sinking were ever you were at and the mud was so thick. My foot kept coming out of my chest waders until both feet were out and I was stepping on the inside of my waders and still sinking. It was a big mess. I had to keep pulling my wader boot out of the mud and try to put my foot inside the boot to take another step. I found out very soon that I won't be able to turn around so I ended up trying to back out and that's when I started my retreat back out of the mud. Finally I got back and I still need to get across. I was so wore out and tired from struggle with the thick mud I didn't know if I would be able to make it to the other side. My father in law has pretty much left and already started to fish. I still wanted to get over to the other side so I decided to go the way my father in law went and reach for the platoon boat for support to pull myself to the other side. Although I felt discourage about the mud I started my new journey to reach the boat and come to find out it was easier than I thought. I made it across tired, embarrassed, and cold from the weather and moisted mud.

We ended up bringing five crappie out and we couldn't get any thing else to bite. They all were biting the minnows and nothing would touch my old worms. Pitty...
